Not Sure What Light You Need to Hire? - A Beginner’s Guide

This guide is intended for those without much experience with lighting, looking for a simple solution. If you are an experienced gaffer or videographer, consider checking out our Popular Lights Comparison guide instead.

We'll Point You in the Right Direction.

Good lighting can make the biggest difference to the quality of your photos or videos. But if you've never hired lighting before, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by all the different options.

At Cine Hire, we regularly help first-time customers who simply need a reliable lighting setup without having to become lighting experts.

Our Two Go-To Recommendations

If you're not sure where to start, these are the two lights we recommend most often.

Aputure F22C

The Aputure F22C is one of our most popular lights because it's incredibly versatile. It’s a relatively large, soft LED panel light that is flattering for people, making it ideal for:

  • Interviews

  • Corporate videos

  • Podcasts

  • YouTube content

  • Promotional videos

  • Photography

It's lightweight, quick to set up and can even be powered by V-Mount batteries if you're filming somewhere without mains power. Full RGB (colour) control, diffusion included, slim profile, and fits on almost any light stand.

Aputure Amaran 300C

If you need a more directional light, the Aputure Amaran 300C is a fantastic choice. It's ideal for adding punch to a scene, lighting larger spaces or creating more dramatic looks.

With full-colour RGB control, it's equally at home lighting interviews or adding creative colour to commercial productions, music videos and events. Use it as is, or consider adding a modifier like an Aputure Light Dome to soften the light.

Do You Need Lighting... or Someone to Light it?

Hiring lights is only part of the equation.

If you're planning a shoot, you may find it easier to hire someone who knows how to use professional lighting. We can provide a professional to help you on your shoot and this also provides a discount on renting any equipment from us.

Alongside equipment hire, we can arrange:

  • Lighting technicians (gaffers/sparks)

  • Videographers

  • Photographers

  • Camera operators

  • Production crew

For many businesses and event organisers, having an experienced crew member on site means better results and less stress.

Still Not Sure Which One You Need?

Don't worry—that's what we're here for. Tell us what you're filming and what you're trying to achieve, and we'll recommend the most suitable lighting package.

Give Us a Call

If you're unsure what lighting you need, the easiest thing to do is pick up the phone.

We'll ask a few simple questions about your shoot and recommend the best solution—whether that's an Aputure F22C, an Amaran 300C, a complete lighting package or if you’re best off with a professional crew member to help on the day.

Our goal is to make your shoot as straightforward and successful as possible.
